A-Z Challenge 2017

Tales of everyday life in the coastal village of Amble Bay

Hi, how are you settling in?

Well, here we are at Amble Bay beach.  It’s not the prettiest beach I admit, but at least there’s no risk of being hit on the head by a coconut! Those wonky old beach huts could look quite attractive with a bit of work, couldn’t they? No? Maybe not!

I see you have your bucket and spade. It’s pebbly here now but there’ll be some soggy sand when the tide goes out.

What are you looking at? Oh her! I should have warned you. That bit along there's reserved for folk of a naturist persuasion. That’s Naked Nora practising her yoga. No, not a pretty sight, but not as alarming as Arthur in his orange mankini! He didn’t realise it was a joke when we gave it to him. He thinks it’s very fetching and regularly strolls along here wearing it in the summer.

This old fishing boat has been in the Whiting family for generations. It’s got more patches than my gran’s patchwork quilt! But Willy goes out in it most days and usually comes back with a few wriggling fish. They sell it in the fish shop over there by the car park. I prodded a lobster in there once. Wretched thing snapped hold of my finger. I got my own back though - I ate it!

Fancy an ice cream?

Arthur who was the subject of my first tale seems to have become a minor celebrity in A-Z land! He will feature in all future stories, so if you missed his introduction you can find it HERE!

Tomorrow I’ll be taking you to The Church for a chuckle or two!

  1. I quite like pebbly beaches. More...how shall I put it? textured? Though perhaps not with a Nora naturist thrown in!

  9. That coconut falling from the tree happened to me in Miami Beach. I actually stuffed it in my luggage and brought it home with me.

  10. I would love an ice, but I'll have to eat it away from the beach in case I spy Naked Nora, or Arthur in a mankini; either of which sights might cause a significant lessening of my enjoyment of said confection.

  11. I like the sound of that beach though I'll stay away from Naked Nora! Oh and I'll take that ice cream too.

    1. I actally live in Bexhill on Sea a bit further along the same coast as you and I used Normans Bay, a couple of miles away as my model for this beach. It was good enough for Willy the Conk in 1066 so it's good enough for me!

  34. Naked Nora and Arthur in a mankini, I'm not sure that's the kind of beach scenery I'm looking for! :-) I'm more enjoying it here on the Gulf Coast this week, where there is absolutely no one on the beach but Papa Bear and I, since it's a weekday. Crowds appear on the weekend, but we will be gone by then.
